Biography & CV
Prior to his tenure in Montréal, Johnson served for three seasons with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, initially as Resident Conductor (2013-2015), and subsequently as Associate Conductor (2015-2016). He has also guest-conducted the Edmonton, Québec, Trois-Rivières, Saskatoon, Regina, Guelph and Thunder Bay symphony orchestras, as well as Symphony Nova Scotia, l’Orchestre du Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and l’Orchestre symphonique de l’Estuaire. Internationally he has conducted the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Staatsorhester Rheinische Philharmonie and members of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg.

Adam Johnson guest conducts Canada's busiest chamber choir, the Ensemble Vocal Arts Québec for the funeral of the great Canadian singer Joseph Rouleau. Other invited performers include stars such as Marie-Nicole Lemieux.
July 2019
Adam Johnson concludes his tenure as Resident Conductor of the OSM by conducting 3 outdoor concerts for crowds of 10 000 - 12 000 people each in surrounding communities of Montréal, featuring violinist Kerson Leong. UPDATE: The OSM honoured Adam Johnson in front of 10 000 people with a presentation and piece led by the concertmaster during his final concert.
Sharing the podium with Kent Nagano for the Symphonie de la Virée, they will perform on the main stage of the Complexe Desjardins in music by Canadian composers Maxim Goulet and Jacques Hétu, as well as Holst and Saint-Saens.
April 2019
On April 4th Adam Johnson makes his debut with Symphony Nova Scotia, in a program featuring Stravinsky's Octet, Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, and Dvorak's seldom-heard Piano Concerto, with Sara Davis Buechner as soloist.
Renewing his award-winning collaboration with Patrice Belanger, Adam Johnson conducts and acts (by memory in French!) in Les Mathématiques de la Musique with the OSM, performing for 8000 youth over 4 days.
He then leads to the OSM back-to-back in a varied program previewing the 2019-2020 season for donors, featuring music by Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Dvorak, Adams, and Chang.
His 3rd program with the OSM in April alone, Adam Johnson conducts Messiaen's Oiseaux Exotiques and Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major with veteran Jean-Philippe Collard at the piano, as well as Holst's The Planets.
March 2019
March is an exciting month as Adam Johnson works with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, conducting Stravinsky's monumental Rite of Spring, Debussy's last orchestral work, Jeux, and Saint-Saen's brilliant Piano Concerto no. 5 with celebrated pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
He then joins the OSM on a 9 city tour around Europe, including stops in the major concert halls of Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Essen, Regensburg, Hamburg, and Munich.

Adam Johnson participates in the OSM's Brahms Festival, featuring all four Symphonies paired with contemporary Canadian films and new compositions.

Adam Johnson conducts the OSM in the celebrated children's classic Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev.

Adam Johnson returns to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for holiday concerts featuring the great Canadian jazz singer Denzal Sinclaire, in A Nat King Cole Christmas.

Adam Johnson makes his debut with the Orchestre Symphonique de Trois-Rivières in an exciting program featuring The Planets by Gustav Holst.
Nearly 10 000 youth will attend the OSM's Les Manigances de Maestro Chat Botté, featuring Adam Johnson as conductor.

Adam Johnson travels to Hamburg, Germany, to conduct the Hamburg Staatsoper Orchestra along side Kent Nagano in Charles Ive's Symphony no. 4, for two performances in the Elbphilharmonie.
